Conference Venue

Valencia Conference Centre
(Palacio de Congresos de Valencia)

Since the Centre was opened on 2nd July 1998, the Valencia Conference Centre (VCC) has become one of the most emblematic buildings in the city. This unique building, built by Norman Foster, was conceived in response to the existing demand to bring event tourism to Valencia and to cater for all its requirements and provide event holders with the very best service, environment and space requirement in an exclusive, purpose-built venue which would serve as a melting pot for the exchange of knowledge and be deserving of a wide variety of awards.

The activity of the Conference Centre has led to the construction of a wide range of hotels which offers over 1,000 rooms around itself and an important leisure area. The VCC is closely linked to its immediate milieu. It is completely surrounded by 10,000m2 of gardens which are filled with autochthonous species. These gardens, together with the adjacent 40,000m2 ‘Jardín de Polifilo’ are the real green “lung” of this busy business district which has been created as a result of the construction of the Conference Centre.

Architect of Valencia Conference Centre

- Norman Foster

Valencia Conference Centre, where the 45th International EDTNA/ERCA Conference is taking place, was designed by Foster + Partners.

In 1999 Norman Foster was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize, often referred to as the Nobel Prize of architecture. He was honoured with a life peerage, taking the title Lord Foster of Thames Bank.

Foster +Partners designed, among others, the world famous reconstruction of the Reichstag in Berlin, 30 St Mary Axe building in London, popularly referred to as "the gherkin", after its shape, or the Millau Viaduct in Southern France, the tallest bridge in the world.

ECO (Ecologically Comitted Organisation)

Putting theECO (Ecologically Committed Organisation) Project into operation is the culmination of a global sustainability project which aims to combine holding conferences with respect for the environment, through continuous improvement and personal commitment.
Innovation, efficiency and respect for the environment are the defining features of the project which allows the Centre to hold a wide range of conferences and other events without harming its natural surroundings.

The concept of a building which takes advantage of Valencia´s splendid natural light, the Mediterranean climate and which must fit into an urban landscape are good starting points to develop a space that also has to contribute to the economic and social progress of its milieu.
In 2008, the Centre has decided to raise the stakes even higher. The installation of a solar roof system has moved the Centre closer to compliance with the Kyoto Protocol and has made it a pioneer as the first building in Spain of its type to adopt this type of environmental commitment.
